Press Releases of Kayeta Puja (Bratabhanda) 2016

Newah Organization of America (NOA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of 6th Group Kayeta Puja (Bratabandha) Ceremony on Sunday, July 10th, 2016 at Washington Kali Temple, Maryland on the presence of representative from Nepalese Embassy Economic Counselor Mr. Kailash Raj Pokharel and respected community members. Kayeta Puja is a unique and very important religious ceremony in Newah Culture. The ceremony was performed and concluded by renowned Newah Priest and Scholar Mr. Basav Rajopadhyay.

This year participators were:

Mr. Binam Kayastha (s/o Mr. Krishna Prasad Kayastha & Mrs. Bina Pradhanang) Waltham, Massachusetts.

Mr. Rukesh Shrestha (s/o Mr. Kishor & Mrs. Rupa Shrestha) Alberta, Canada

Mr. Amulya Shrestha (s/o Mr. Dil Kumar & Mrs. Janaka Shrestha) Springfield, Virginia

Mr. Abilam Pradhan (s/o Mr. Ajay & Mrs. Manisha Shrestha) Reisterstown, Maryland

Mr. Samyog Rajbhandari (s/o Mr. Manish & Mrs. Subha Rajbhandari) Hyattsville, Maryland

Newah Priest Mr. Basav Rajopadhyay initiated the Pitri (Nandimukhi) Shradda with eldest Mr. Ganesh Lal & Mrs. Hari Baba Kayastha, inviting his ancestors and those of all participants. The puja proceeded in a fully traditional way and completed around 4:00 PM with participants receiving blessings from the priest, parents, families and attendees. The crowd enjoyed gathering to witness the boys’ ceremonial seven steps on betel nuts and betel nut leaves, with highly entertaining and lively chases by the maternal uncles.

NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha welcomed all the participants, their families, guests, and expressed appreciation for their support and participation in this important ritual ceremony. Mr. Shrestha thanked Newah Priest Mr. Basav Rajopadhyay for completion of ritual ceremony, NOA EC members, their spouses and volunteers for their tireless efforts to run this event successfully and all media partners for covering the event. He also expressed special thanks to the honorable representative from Nepalese Embassy Economic Counselor Mr. Kailash Raj Pokharel and his spouse, Past Vice President Mr. Ganesh Lal and his spouse Mrs. Hari Baba Kayastha for serving as Nayo and Naki of the ceremony, NOA founding members and Past Presidents and representatives of local organization. He also extended gratitude to The Washington Kali Temple for providing venue and all the generous food contributors.

Member at Large Mr. Divakar Dhaubhadel served as emcees and called meeting to function Honorable Chief Guest Mr. Kailash Raj Pokharel and his spouse, NOA President Ram Lal Shrestha, NOA Past Vice President Mr. Ganesh Lal Kayastha and Newah Priest and Scholar Mr. Basav Rajopadhyay. Chief Guest Mr. Pokharel distributed certificate of completion to all five Kayeta Puja participants, Nepali Cap (Tupli) by Nayo Mr. Kayastha and President Mr. Shrestha presented NOA T shirt to all participants and distributed LASKUS Magazine of 2016 as a souvenir to their parents. Mr. Pokharel expressed an appreciation to all the community members working on preservation and promotion of Newah culture & tradition of national identity in the USA and congratulated all the participants, their parents and relatives on the completion of Kayeta Puja (Bratabandha).

The ritual ceremony concluded with good crowd of peoples including friends, family and relatives. NOA would like to extended appreciation to Mr. Nani & Mrs. Magan Shrestha, Mrs. Laxmi Yadav, and Ms. Ratna Ranjit and NOA EC members family for the food and financial contribution for the ceremony.
