As you undoubtedly already know, a very severe 7.8 magnitude Earthquake on 04/25/2015 and 7.4 magnitude on 5/12/2015 hit my country, Nepal and there is a very urgent need to directly help people, many of whom are living in remote, rugged, isolated mountainous regions, to receive very basic everyday living and survival needs such as food, water, medicines, shelter such as tents, warm clothing, etc.
The death toll is already more than 8,000 and is expected to go up as dust settles after this tremendous devastation to life and property. In addition to the deaths, thousands more have been injured, are still waiting to be found and rescued, and countless numbers have lost their homes. And now the monsoon rains have come and people who have been living outside in tents, afraid to go into their own houses because of the continuous aftershocks and the fear that they might come tumbling down on them, still cannot re-enter their homes. Thousands live in open spaces outside in wet weather.
The survivors are in need of very basic humanitarian supplies such as food, water, medicines, warm clothes, tents, and so on. As the days go on, there is also the increasing likelihood that poor sanitation and lack of medicines will lead to cholera and other outbreaks. The hospitals are overloaded with many times their normal patient count.
Also, my country has lost many of its oldest, most treasured and most beautiful Heritage sites, such as centuries-old temples, pagodas, monuments, statues, etc., many of which were located in the very same place where I was born.
There are, of course, a number of international relief organizations helping, such as the Red Cross, UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders, but they need funds to support their missions.
NOA Donated Medical supplies to Nepal earthquake victims
Newah Organization of America (NOA) sent medical supplies to earthquake victims in Nepal. NOA past President Mr. Rajesh Shrestha kindly agreed to escort the supplies to Nepal, and assisted in clearing the supplies through Nepal customs. After the supplies reached Nepal, they were given to the Rotary Club of Madhyapur (RCM) for turnover to the Nepal Army. The Army then distributed the supplies to a mobile health clinic for use in treating people in the surrounding areas. The Army also directly distributed some supplies to needy sick and injured people. We sincerely thanks to Neighborhood Health Services Inc. Alexandria who donated urgently needed medical supplies to NOA for earthquake victims to Nepal.
NOA donation to build a temporary rehabilitation shelter
NOA donated $1000.00 to a local Nepal organization, Kartik Nach Samrakshan, to build a temporary rehabilitation shelter in Chikhona.
NOA Contribution for Mr. Ram Shekhar NakarmiNOA contributed $500.00 from the NOA Fund to Newah prominent author and director, Mr. Ram Shekhar Nakarmi. His house collapsed in the recent earthquake and he is living in a senior citizens’s home.

In memory of the “First Anniversary of The Nepal Quake,” NOA quickly donated school bags, stationary, and T-shirts to 100 earthquake child victims on April 14, 2016, in coordination with the Rotary club of Madhyapur Thimi. NOA is still working closely with various organizations, both in the USA, in Nepal, and elsewhere internationally, on many rebuilding and recovery projects and we will continue to try our very best to support these efforts into the future. The recovery and restoring work is far, far from yet being finished, and substantial help of many kinds, including medical assistance, is still very urgently needed.
