Press Release: Annual Mha Puja (inner worship) on Monday, October 31st, 2016
The Newah Organization of America Language Center (NOALC) celebrated annual ritual Mha Puja (inner worship) in the Washington DC metropolitan area on Monday, October 31st, 2016. This annual ritual ceremony preformed on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1137 New Year day of lunar calendar of the country.
Mha Puja means “worship of the self”, and it celebrates the spirit within oneself. The ceremony signifies an auspicious beginning of the New Year, and invokes prosperity and longevity of participant. This ritual ceremony has being celebrated by the Newah people since Vedic Era.
NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha welcomed special guests Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. & Mrs. Jiban Prakash Shrestha and his family, Economic Counselor Mr. & Mrs. Kailash Raj Pokharel from Embassy of Nepal, President of World Newah Organization Mr. Season Shrestha, all media representatives and all the participants of annual Mha Puja celebration. Mr. Shrestha extended warm greetings on the occasion of Mha Puja 1137 and also mentioned that this celebration is being organizing past one decade by NOALC and he mentioned that Mha Puja is National New Year of our country Nepal.
Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Shrestha wishes all the participants Happy New Year, Nepal Sambat 1137 and express happiness to be a part of NOA’s Mha-Puja celebration. Economic Counselor Mr. Pokharel had exchanged greetings on this occasion and congratulated NOA for conducting Mha Puja and enhancing this festival all over United State through its chapters. NOALC students initiated the preparation of Puja by making traditional mandala and decoration. General Secretary Mr. Mahindra Pradhan has conducted Mha Puja ceremony scripted by Respected Newah Priest Mr. Basav Rajopadhyay.
There was a traditional Sagan ceremony and followed by authentic Jhoe Bhoye (Newah feast) with indigenous food. NOA is always dedicated to bring the community together and involved all NOALC students with their family and teach them about Newah culture, traditions and values.
