The Newah Organization of America celebrated Nepal Sambat 1137 “National New Year”, commemorating national hero Sankhadhar Sakhwa on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Washington DC area. NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha and Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United States Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki offered khada and flower bouquets on the picture of Shankhadhar Sakhwa the Founder of Nepal Sambat (Nepal Era) in presence of Pancha Kanyas.
More than two hundred community members and well wisher came together to enjoy this National New Year Celebration. The celebration begun with traditional SUKUNDA Rally, The portrait of Sankhadhar Sakhwa carried by Senior and founding member of NOA Mr. Ganesh Lal Kayastha and welcomed by beautiful Pancha Kanyas Ms. Nitisha Karmacharya, Ms. Kritisha Karmacharya, Ms. Roseeta Shrestha, Ms. Sasha Tuladhar and Ms. Elvisha Pradhan. Mrs. Haribaba Kayastha and Mrs. Vidya Pradhan offered the blessing tika and red kokha along with Sagun and Samay Bajee that represents the symbols of good luck to all guests on their arrival.
Mrs. Babita Shrestha, 1st Vice President and Mr. Pushkar Prajapati, Secretary invited NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha, Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United State Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Special Guest Speaker Mr. Jagat Krishna Shrestha, Executive Member of Rastriya Bibhuti Sankhadhar Sakhwa Pratisthan, and Special Guest Mr. Season Shrestha, President of World Newah Organization to take a seat and thanked all attendee for their participation. The Nepal Sambat 1137 celebration program officially began by lighting the Twadewa by Chief Guest His Excellency Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki presented by Mrs. Hari Baba Kayastha. First Past President of NOA Mr. Beda Pradhan distributed Khada to all of guests at the dash supported by spouse of executive committee Mrs. Chhaya Pradhan, Mrs. Sunita Shrestha, and Mrs. Meeli Dhaubadel. Also Flower and Khada distributed to official guests to tribute honor on the picture of Shankhadhar Sakhwa by Pancha Kanyas.
NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha extended warm greetings on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1137 and also mentioned that NOA is working together with all other organizations to continue commemorating national hero Sankhadhar Sakhwa since it was established in 2001 and he further said Nepal Sambat is belongs to all Nepalese citizens not only Newah communities. Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United States Dr. Karki has mentioned that the Sankhadhar Sakhwa is a national hero who has formed National Era with his remarkable gratitude and he also mentioned Government of Nepal had already declared Nepal Sambat as the Rastriya Sambat (National New Year). He had congratulated NOA for working very actively to promote Nepal through Newah Culture around Washington DC area. Guest Speaker President of World Newah Organization Mr. Shrestha had mentioned that Nepal Sambat is belong to all citizens of the country and eventually different Newah Community of the world started this celebration to maintain importance of the Nepal Sambat and Legendary Sankhadhar Sakhwa. Special Guest Speaker, Executive Members of Rastriya Bibhuti Sankhadhar Sakhwa Pratisthan Mr. Shrestha had highlighted Nepal Sambat and Sankhadhar Sakhwa Pratisthan effort towards preservation of Newah culture & heritage.
Mr. Sushil Lal Shrestha, 2nd Vice President of NOA thanked all attendees, including the Chief Guest, Special Guests, Representatives from different Organizations, Volunteers, Media Representatives, Food Contributors, Cultural Program Performers as well as tireless effort of NOA Executive Committee members and their families. Mr. Mahindra Pradhan, Culture Program Coordinator introduced Mrs. Babita Shrestha and Ms. Medina Shakya to host the lively cultural program featuring songs and dances by local artists, including NOALC “Newah Organization of America Language Center” students. Program began with ‘Jhigu Kha Nepal Sambat’ live song by NOA EC & Spouse. The crowd enjoyed the semi classical dance of Senior Performer and Choreographer Mr. Yagya Man Shakya & Ms. Lochani Tara Shakya, Newah Dance of Ms. Nitisha & Ms. Kritisha Karmacharya, Mix fusion dance of Ms. Lochani Tara Shakya, Ms. Mala Pradhan, Ms. Lujala Ranjit & Ms. Prisha Shrestha, Nepali dance of Ms. Suhana Shahi, Mix Nepali dance of Ms. Samikshya Sapkota & Mr. Amrit Tamang. Also melodious songs of famous pop singers Mr. Sanjeep Pradhan & Ms. Sarishma Amatya, Mr. Sushil Lal Shrestha, Mr. Bishomver Pradhan, Mr. Sughandha Shrestha, also vibrant instrumental play of Ms. Shrastha Maharjan, Mr. Sudin Amatya, Mr. Joyal Ranjit, Mr. Divakar Dhaubhadel & Lead Guitarist of Trikaal Band Mr. Sujay Shrestha.
NOA also presented a Play “The Legend of Sankhadhar” Mr. Pushkar Prajapati, Dr. Roshan Lal Shrestha and their team composed and performed very successfully along with Mr. Anil Ranjit, Mr. Sujay Shrestha, Mr. Divakar Dhaubhadel, Ms. Yashila Shrestha, Ms. Bibhusa Shrestha, Mr. Sushil Shrestha, Mr. Mahindra Pradhan and Dance by Ms. Sunita Amatya, ended the memorable entertainment nights.
Authentic traditional delicious home cooked Newah dinner buffet Bhoye was served to all participants. NOA extends New Year’s greeting to all Nepalese around the world and shares its best wishes for Nepal Sambat 1137, Nepal Era!!
